Learning

To help us both grow, I am continually studying and learning. For your voice to grow you should Commit to regular, on-going lessons. Sing regularly so your discoveries can be built into a technique you can depend on. Enjoy the journey. Learning means going from a place you know into a new place. It can be scary, but the rewards are great. Attendance, rescheduling, etc.

Attendance, rescheduling, etc.

Punctuality

Please be on time for your lesson. If you’re early, I invite you to wait in the virtual waiting room.

Commitment

Regular, on-going lessons are vitally important for your growth.

Cancellations

Last-minute cancellations disrupt your growth – we cannot get any work done if we’re not meeting. And last-minute cancellations mean I can’t give that time to another student. You loose, my students lose, and I lose – that isn’t fair to anyone. There is a one-week cancellation policy in the studio. Lessons cancelled with less than one week’s notice are charged at the normal rate. The only exception is illness.

Rescheduling In The Case Of Illness

If you’re sick please give me 24-hour’s notice. In case of illness, we will re-schedule your lesson to another date. In that case, you would have 2 lessons in one week – after you’re well!

Practice Time

I hate to brag, but I’m very skillful as a teacher. My magic will enable you to make wonderful new discoveries about your singing voice. In order for those discoveries to grow into consistent, dependable singing, you need to be able to practice singing outside of the lesson. The more regularly you can practice, the deeper and the more effective will be your work and the quicker you’ll achieve your goals.

Student Responsibilities

  • Students are expected to practice their music on their own between lessons. Students should practice daily for the amount of time their lesson lasts. (If you take a 30 minute lesson, practice 30 minutes a day.) DAILY PRACTICE will bring the best results. Singing is a physical activity, and as is true of other forms of physical exercise, practice is essential and MUST be done at least every other day in order for any progress to occur. Do not practice for 2 hours as this can bring on vocal fatigue and hoarseness.
  • If you must be absent from a lesson, please text or e-mail me to let me know ahead of time. It is best to contact me at least three days before if possible. When students miss lessons and I do not hear from then, often it turns out that they are dropping their lessons.
  • Students should bring their music books, sheet music and a recording device to EVERY lesson. A binder should be purchased in which the sheet music is kept, and their digital recorder put in a pencil keeper in the binder.
  • Students are expected to attend their lessons regularly. If a pattern of absences occurs, the teacher and student will discuss the problem. There is no point in paying for lessons that you are not able to attend. If the irregular attendance continues, you may be dropped from the studio.

Student Makeup Lessons

There are no makeup lessons when the student is absent. This is compensated for in the fee structure. There are several months in the year which have 5 weeks. The extra sessions received in these months help to balance out for student absences. Students who have been studying for 4 months are allowed a two week vacation period for which they will not be charged.

Instructor Absences

If the instructor misses a lesson, one of two things occurs:
